Industrial Placement: 130 hours with PROTOGÉ (Gateshead) + 182 hours with I N F I N I T Y 27 (Gateshead)

Areas of Interest: Unreal Engine Blueprint Visual Scripting; UI Design & Implementation; Experience Design

Challenge

“I didn't really have a clue what was going to be involved in the program, but since coming here with the other students I have felt comfortable. If I had come here by myself I would have been anxious. I wasn't sure how easy it would be, or how much of the game engine I could pick up based on current skill level.”

Outcome

”When I was told about the project, I was expecting it to be pretty difficult. Some parts of it were, and I wasn't sure I could do it. I surprised myself by doing alright considering the lack of experience. We used a lot team working and collaborative problem solving to produce solutions. I feel comfortable at work now. When doing pre-development I was expecting a big struggle. It was challenging but we persevered and got through it and we found it fun.”

Impact

“The program has definitely had a positive impact, especially working with others and doing challenging tasks, getting used to the workplace environment. Before placement I was unsure what job I would be looking to go into, just something with computers. The program has made me realize I could do something that was enjoyable and would consider as a future career.”
