Challenge
Thanks to the team I didn’t feel there were any major challenges with the placement as I received any help I required with the work. Though I was challenged to develop my professional capabilities across a range of skillsets, I did not feel there was anything too strenuous expected of me. I was able to push myself but not to the point of struggling with anything. This was a unique and well structured opportunity to test myself in a live working environment.
Outcome
I am really happy with the outcome of the placement. I felt it gave me the opportunity to improve my skills in various areas. I was shown how to complete various tasks that I would not have learned otherwise - project management, rapid iterative design and much more - as well as working in a way that expanded my knowledge of the AGILE and SCRUM frameworks in practice. I was even encouraged and supported to gain a Google certification in Project Management in the workplace; putting me on track to achieve my long-term goals.
Whilst the placement overall was typical of what I had expected, I didn’t expect to have so much freedom of exploration within the work that I was assigned. I feel my time with the company was beneficial to my personal and professional improvement.
Impact
The placement has secured my desire to work within the games industry but has also helped me to narrow down being a designer and producer rather than any other roles within the industry. This is useful in searching for future opportunities and the team have worked with me after the placement to identify current job opportunities that fit my ability and follow-up with me regularly. I really enjoyed my time on placement with PROTOGÉ at INFINITY27 and would not change anything about my placement. It has had a positive impact for me, definitely.
